For those of you who haven’t been to Dutch Berry, when you come down our main street from the south, you’ll see a large house at the end of the cul-de-sac on Chesapeake Place. While the house has been there since the late 1800s and since it is technically the only multi-story, multi-household house in all of Dutch Berry, we’ve nicknamed it Dutch Berry Manor.
Why are we talking about Dutch Berry Manor here at the Sheriff’s Office? We get so many complaints from the residents that we’ve started posting the most interesting and hilarious ones here. The complaints are about things that happen that are neither illegal nor criminally enforceable. The residents call the Sheriff’s Office and endlessly complain about each other.
Complaints
So far, there has never been a report nor a complaint made, coming from Dutch Berry Manor that has resulted in us having to send a deputy to keep the peace. Not one. And we’ve tried to ask them to stop calling us about things that they should be handling among each other but they won’t stop.
As always, we welcome any questions or complaints about anything. Within reason. If you have an emergency, however, call 911!
Our hope is that by posting the silliest complaints and reports here, and making them public, maybe the Dutch Berry Manor residents will stop bugging us about their petty differences with each other.
Solana Van Bardeleven
Dutch Berry Manor has 5 actual bedrooms and several living areas that have been converted into makeshift bedrooms. It is owned by Solana Van Bardeleven who lives in the master suite and sees herself as the mother of all who rent a room from her.
Solana also stands up on the balcony on the top floor and smokes while overlooking the front, street and parking area of all the neighbors and residents. Unlike Solana’s excuse for standing up there and “getting a breath of fresh air” (which seems odd if you’re out there smoking a cigarette!), both neighbors and residents alike believe that she is spying on them and that this is her excuse to watch everyone’s comings and goings and to keep tabs on them.
Black Panda Plumbing
After all the stories and complaints we hear about Solana, true or made up, and however fantastical they seem, probably the most controversial resident living in the house is Roberto Wizzelpenning. While Solana says she bought the house in 2012, according to other residents, she claimed in 2022 that Roberto has been a resident for over 15 years. And back then, Roberto went by his middle name, Alfonso. And Solana still endearingly calls him “Alfonso” on occasion.
Roberto is the owner of Black Panda Plumbing; you have probably seen several of his cars and trucks parked all around Dutch Berry. He believes that parking his vehicles with the company logo all over town is the best form of advertising. Since he’s the only plumber in Dutch Berry, he doesn’t actually have any competition but he likes everyone to know that he’s here whenever he is needed.
Wizzelpenning Mystery
We’ve had a lot of people calling and wondering about the trucks and a few complaints here and there but Roberto is not doing anything that is against the law. Like clockwork, he moves his vehicles around long before the parking meters expire.
Roberto also has a sister, Antonia, who lives in the house. Antonia also helps him with the business. And then there is also their other brother, Esteban, who randomly shows up and spends the night in a corner. It freaks out the other residents because it feels like a homeless person broke into the house. But Esteban leaves early the next morningĀ and it’s like he was never there.
Get an Award in being the Worst
Deacon Dan and Beautiful Betty came to Dutch Berry after Dan was laid off from a promising job with a major retailer in the bay area. As fans of Patty Mayo and having recently become empty nesters, the two decided to try something new and different and came to Dutch Berry. Get
Dan has many talents and experience that are useful to the church so Pastor Dave almost immediately ordained him as a deacon. While Beautiful Betty knows all the ins and outs of the beauty industry and makes her own makeup and teaches young women about healthy products. These two are a power couple!
The most complaints we get actually revolve around the Jansen kids and Liliana Achterberg. Well, they’re not kids anymore but one does have to wonder, based on the complaints we get. Vijfiana Jansen and Liliana moved in first. They’re best friends from high school and decided it would be adventurous to move to Dutch Berry soon after graduation.
Een Jansen came next. Fresh from the Marine Corps, Een decided it was time for a break from all the hustle and bustle of military housing and city life and found the quaint and peaceful Dutch Berry community quite refreshing. Joining Een and Vijfiana, Zevenia has now joined them in the new year.
The Kosher Kitchen
In and out of the house, we also hear about Liese and Dael, Solana’s daughter’s, as well as Dael’s daughter, Elke, Solana’s granddaughter. Liese, Dael and Elke visit on and off but it’s Liese that seems to give the other residents the most headaches.
Another semi-resident we hear about is Esther who is Solana’s good friend who stays over for many of the Jewish holidays. According to the tenants, Esther is very friendly and kind; it’s not her who is the problem but rather the way Solana acts when Esther is around.
Is there anyone we missed? Let us know. Always, you can contact us with any questions or concerns. Even complaints!
